WindEurope: In the Q4 2024, 16 countries ordered wind turbines with a capacity of 9.3 GW

In the last quarter of 2024, 16 European countries ordered wind turbines with a capacity of 9.3 GW, an increase of 121% compared to the previous quarter and 77% more than in the same period last year, according to statistics for the period October-December 2024 presented by WindEurope, the leading European wind energy association of which RES Serbia is a member. Serbia is not part of the WindEurope report this quarter.

The largest number of wind turbine orders was placed in Germany (2.5 GW), followed by the United Kingdom (2.4 GW). Turkey was third with 638 MW of new orders. Significant offshore wind orders were recorded in the United Kingdom and Germany, where three large orders totaling 2.9 GW were concluded.

Among wind turbine manufacturers, Vestas had the largest share of orders with 48%, followed by Nordex with 39% and Siemens Energy with 13%. China’s Goldwind had the smallest share, below 1%.

In the Q4 2024, Nordex announced orders in 12 countries, Vestas in 11, Siemens Energy and Goldwind in one country each.

Onshore, 69% of turbine orders were above 5 MW, while all offshore turbine orders were 15 MW. The average onshore turbine order was 5.6 MW, up 4% from the third quarter. Montenegro was the only country in the region to place turbine orders this quarter.

Operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts were part of 83% of total capacity ordered in Q4 2024. More than 2.7 GW of wind turbines covered long-term O&M contracts of at least 20 years.

WindEurope tracked orders for 124 wind farms in the fourth quarter of 2024.
