WindEurope: In the first quarter of 2025, 10 countries ordered wind turbines with a total capacity of 5.8 GW

In the first quarter of 2025, 10 European countries ordered wind turbines with a capacity of 5.8 GW, which is a decrease of 38% compared to the previous quarter, according to statistical data for the period January-March 2025 presented by WindEurope, the leading European wind energy association, of which RES Serbia is a member. Serbia is not part of the WindEurope report this quarter either.

According to the report, Germany led the way in Q1 2025 with 1.8 GW of ordered capacity, followed by Poland with 1.5 GW and Türkiye with 805 MW.

Notable orders include two large offshore wind turbine projects – 1.5 GW in Poland and 1 GW in Germany.

While total ordered capacity declined by 38% compared to Q4 2024, the year-on-year growth of 40% highlights a continuing upward trend.

Among turbine manufacturers, Nordex held the top spot with a 38% share of the disclosed capacity, followed by Vestas with 33%, Siemens Energy with 28%, and GE Vernova with 1%.

A key continuing trend is the inclusion of maintenance contracts: as much as 98% of disclosed orders included Operation & Maintenance (O&M) agreements, underscoring the growing importance of long-term servicing in the wind energy sector.

The average capacity of onshore turbines ordered in the first quarter of 2025 was 66.3 MW, setting a new record.

The report shows that despite a quarterly decline, the European wind energy market is experiencing steady annual growth, with an increasing focus on large-scale projects and advanced technologies.

WindEurope tracked the orders for 49 wind farms in Q1 2025.
