In Serbia, the concept of consumer-producer, where households become active participants in the energy system, is gaining more and more importance. According to the data of the Elektrodistribucija Srbije, there are currently 2,811 households in the Register of Buyers-Producers that function as prosumers. These households not only consume electricity, but also produce it, usually through solar panels.
The total power of the prosumer-households is currently 22,841.36 kW.
There are differences in the statistical regions of the Republic of Serbia in the number of prosumers. As of October 31, 1006 prosumer-households were registered in Vojvodina, while there are 465 in the Belgrade region. Šumadija and Western Serbia recorded 583 prosumer-households, while in the region of Southern and Eastern Serbia there are 757. There is currently no data for the region of Kosovo & Metohija.
The administrative district (okrug) with the fewest prosumers is Toplica, with only 18 prosumers, while the most prosumers, in addition to the capital city of Serbia, are in the South Bačka administrative district (291), of which Novi Sad (160) is a part of.
Also, there are municipalities that still do not have a single prosumer-household, such as Preševo, Trgovište, Crna Trava and Bela Palanka, which are in the very south of Serbia.
There are also differences in municipalities of Belgrade, where the Municipality of Zemun has the most households of prosumers (71), while the most populated municipalities have the fewest prosumers – the Municipality of Novi Beograd (New Belgrade) has 3, while the Municipality of Stari Grad and the Municipality of Vračar have one prosumer each.
In addition to households, the Register also includes three residential communities with an installed capacity of 69.50 kW and other prosumers with an installed capacity of 52,095.74 kW. In the category Other there are industrial facilities, telecommunications facilities, churches, schools, kindergartens, state institutions, individuals, etc.

Prosumers contribute to the local economy and the development of sustainable communities. Investing in solar systems represents a long-term profit, while at the same time encouraging environmental awareness and responsible use of resources. Through this practice, citizens are actively involved in the energy transition, which can lead to significant changes in the way energy is produced and consumed.
In the future, prosumers could significantly contribute to Serbia’s energy stability and sustainability, thus becoming an important part of the strategy for the development of renewable energy sources and reducing the negative impact on the environment.
