Giles Dickson has resigned from his position as CEO of WindEurope, the leading European wind energy association, which includes the Renewable Energy Sources Association of Serbia as one of its members. This decision comes after ten years of leading one of the most influential European associations in the development and promotion of wind energy.
According to WindEurope’s official statement, the process of selecting Dickson’s successor has already begun, and the new leader of the association is expected to be appointed in the coming months. This transitional period ensures continuity in the organization’s work, allowing it to carry on with key initiatives and projects that are shaping the future of Europe’s energy transition.
Giles Dickson, who had been at the helm of WindEurope since September 2015, played a pivotal role in expanding and improving the wind energy market across Europe. During his tenure, WindEurope became a relevant representative of the industry, advocating for the improvement of policies that support sustainable energy sources and the creation of new jobs and business opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
As it was stated, wind energy accounts for 20% of the electricity Europe consumes, and thanks to wind, the EU avoids 100 billion cubic meters of fossil fuel imports. The wind industry provides 370,000 jobs today, rising to 600,000 in 2030. It contributes €52bn to Europe’s GDP. On average each new wind turbine adds €16m to the European economy and the industry’s 250+ factories are all over Europe including in economically-deprived regions.
RES Serbia and its partnership with WindEurope
The Association RES Serbia, which became a member of WindEurope four years ago, has established a close partnership with the organization over the years.
Giles Dickson participated in previous RES Serbia conferences organized by the Association, and WindEurope also provided institutional support. This collaboration has been key in advancing dialogue on the development of the renewable energy sector in Serbia, as well as in strengthening ties with the European industry.
