At today’s meeting, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Bill on Amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources. This enabled the further development of the sector of renewable energy sources, as well as the implementation of auctions for new RES capacities.
In addition to the launch of auctions for new capacities from renewable energy sources, these changes also proposed solving numerous requests for connecting solar power plants and wind power plants to the energy system, as well as a balance between integrating more green energy into the system and ensuring the safe operation of the power system. It is important to note that the amendments to the Law on the Use of RES will greatly affect the reduction of the impact of energy on the environment.
The three-week public debate announced by the Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia, in the period from January 21st, to February 9th, 2023, bore fruit. Amendments to the Law on the Use of RES have been adopted, and the improvement of the conditions for the implementation of new RES projects and conducting auctions, without jeopardizing the operation of the transmission system operator and the guaranteed public supplier, could be quite certain from today.
In the public debate, the Association RES Serbia also contributed, which duly submitted comments on the Draft Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on the Use of RES, drawn up by members of the Association. Amendments to the existing Law should complete the work done so far on accelerating and improving the energy transition, as well as contribute to increasing the share of electricity produced from renewable sources.
