Jelena Matejić is the General Manager of the Joint Stock Company “Elektromreža Srbije,” Belgrade. She holds a degree in economics and a master’s degree in public sector management.
She is the President of the Council of the Shareholders’ Fund of the Republic of Serbia, President of the Assembly of the Regional Security Coordination Center (SCC), a member of the Board of Directors of the Montenegrin Transmission System (CGES), and a member of the Supervisory Board of ADEX HU.
Before joining Elektromreža Srbije, she worked in the companies Mark Plan, Delta Sport, Droga Kolinska, and Atlantic Group.
Matejić has been with Elektromreža Srbije since 2012, and since 2016 she has successfully led the national transmission system operator of the Republic of Serbia EMS AD together with her team.
During this period, EMS AD expanded its share in the Montenegrin transmission system operator CGES, founded the first regional electricity exchange ADEX with headquarters in Budapest, became a member of the AIB Hub – the European platform for exchanging guarantees of origin, and was certified in line with the Third Energy Package.
Within EMS AD, Asset Management and organizational project management were introduced, financial management and control systems as well as risk management were developed and improved, the Business Management System (BMS) for infrastructure monitoring and management was implemented, along with an auction platform for electricity trading. Remote control was introduced in a large number of substations, further improving efficiency and reliability of transmission system operations.
Two sections of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor Pančevo–Romanian border and Kragujevac–Kraljevo were completed, the third section was launched, while financing and permits for the fourth section have been secured. Entirely new substations Beograd 20 and Bistrica were built, while substations Kruševac 1, Srbobran, Smederevo 3, Obrenovac, Pančevo 2, Bor 2, Leskovac and others were fully reconstructed. Underground energy cables were also built in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Kruševac.
Connections were fully built and permanently connected for the wind farms Čibuk, Kovačica, Košava, Alibunar, and Pupin, with a total approved capacity of 468 MW, while wind farms Čibuk 2, Kostolac, and Krivača, with a total approved capacity of 319 MW, are in trial operation. In addition to already completed or partially realized connection projects, construction of wind farms Alibunar 1, Alibunar 2, and Vetrozelena, with a total approved capacity of 459 MW, is underway, with connection expected by late 2027 and early 2028. Alongside renewable energy facilities, other transmission system users have also been connected – TETO Pančevo, TETO Vinča, TS Rudnik 4, TS Rudnik 3, MeiTa, and TS Čukaru Peki, with other facilities within the Zijin mining complex in Bor.
Significant investments have also been successfully realized in preparation for EXPO 2027, ensuring reliable electricity supply for all facilities within the international exhibition complex, while also laying the foundation for future economic development and new investments.
The BeoGrid project, one of the key transmission system development projects, is being implemented, which will provide additional security of electricity supply for Belgrade and create conditions for integrating new renewable energy capacities in the Banat region.
Since 2013, more than 800 kilometers of new high-voltage lines have been built in Serbia, while transformation capacity has increased by about 25 percent. Through continuous investments in the transmission network, digitalization, and modern management systems, EMS AD is increasing the security and reliability of the transmission system and creating the prerequisites for energy transition and greater integration of renewable energy sources.
