Miloš Colić, Chairman of the Management Board of RES Serbia, was a guest on the program “U ritmu dana” on Radio Belgrade 1, where he spoke about the current state, plans, and perspectives for the development of renewable energy sources in Serbia.

He emphasized that wind and solar are today the most competitive and cheapest new sources of electricity generation, offering Serbia the opportunity to simultaneously strengthen energy security, attract investments, and stimulate economic growth.

Serbia is currently one of the leaders of the energy transition in the Western Balkans region, but in order to maintain this pace, it is necessary to continue improving the regulatory framework and removing administrative barriers that slow down investments.

For this reason, RES Serbia has launched an initiative to amend relevant regulations and legal provisions, bearing in mind that a significant number of projects are waiting for permits and other necessary approvals.

Special attention was drawn to the challenges related to connecting new capacities to the transmission system. Recent regulatory changes stipulated that connection study procedures for new large renewable energy projects on the transmission grid will be postponed until 2029, which could significantly slow down the next investment cycle in the sector.

– We believe that through dialogue between institutions, system operators, and the business community it is possible to find sustainable solutions that will both preserve the stability of the power system and enable the continued development of new investments in renewable energy – Colić stated.

Serbia has the resources, knowledge, and investors. The next step is to create regulatory and infrastructural conditions that will allow this potential to be transformed into new megawatts of domestic, clean, and competitive energy.
