Nordex, a regular member of the Association Renewable Energy Sources of Serbia, hosted the Nordex Business Day in Belgrade. The event was attended by members of the Association’s Management Board, Manager Danijela Isailović, as well as numerous members of RES Serbia. Nordex is already present on the wind farm projects of the Association’s members such as Pupin, Čibuk 2, Gvozd, and Jasikovo.
The wind turbine manufacturer announced that its European capacity is expected to grow by 37% over the next two years, securing its leading market position. The Balkans, as part of the wider East Mediterranean region, are becoming increasingly important, with plans to enter Albania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria. Last year was Nordex’s most successful since the late 1990s, and even stronger results are anticipated in 2026.
In his opening remarks, Vladimir Kolarević, Managing Director for Serbia, highlighted the company’s achievements over the past two years, emphasizing that these results would not have been possible without the support of partners and the trust of customers.
The Nordex Group designs, installs, and operates onshore wind turbines, with its first turbine generating electricity more than four decades ago.
The Balkans region for Nordex currently includes Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia, and is part of the East Mediterranean portfolio, which also covers Greece. The company is also active in Turkey and Romania.
Chief Executive Officer José Luis Blanco recalled that Nordex recognized the potential of the Balkans as early as 2013, with its first project in Croatia. He stressed the company’s ambition to follow customers into new markets where Nordex has not yet established projects.
– Customers value not only our technology, but also our understanding of local markets, our commitment to the region, and our ability to act as a trusted long-term partner – Blanco stated.
Energy Demand Strengthening Renewables
Chief Commercial Officer Ibrahim Özarslan underlined that Europe remains the backbone of Nordex’s operations, with 40 GW installed out of a global portfolio of 62 GW.
He noted that renewables are increasingly driven by rising energy demand, energy independence, and affordability, rather than political decisions. Özarslan also emphasized the need to expand in the United States and Canada, and to re-establish presence in Australia and New Zealand.
Nordex secured a 48% market share in Europe last year, with 19 GW in new orders, maintaining the top position for the fourth consecutive year. According to company forecasts, European capacity will rise to 58.5 GW within two years.
The Balkans as a Key Growth Area
Anne-Catherine de Tourtier, Vice President for the Mediterranean, described the Balkans as one of the most exciting growth regions for Nordex and renewable energy. She highlighted the installation of the first four out of 11 turbines at the Tušnica project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total capacity of 72.6 MW, and noted that the Serbian market is now more competitive than ever. “Challenge us. Bring us your most complex projects, your constraints, and your ambitions – we are ready, and we have proven that we can deliver,” she said.
Christopher Billot, Sales Director for the Mediterranean, announced promising short-term projects in Albania, while also following customers into Bulgaria. In the East Mediterranean, Nordex has a portfolio of 2.3 GW, of which 1.2 GW is already installed and the remainder under construction. The company has delivered 12 projects in Croatia totaling 635 MW, 452 MW in Greece, and 200 MW in Serbia.
